FAQ

AI: Good or bad?

AI is seen in both a positive and a negative light. Positively, AI makes things easier than ever. Programming programs that can perform word processing and spreadsheets is now much easier than ever. Instead, we can ask our computers to perform these functions.

On the negative side, people fear that AI will replace humans. Many believe robots will one day surpass their creators in intelligence. They may even take over jobs.

Which are some examples for AI applications?

AI is used in many areas, including finance, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, energy, education, government, law enforcement, and defense. These are just a few of the many examples.

  • Finance – AI is already helping banks detect fraud. AI can detect suspicious activity in millions of transactions each day by scanning them.
  • Healthcare - AI can be used to spot cancerous cells and diagnose diseases.
  • Manufacturing – Artificial Intelligence is used in factories for efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
  • Transportation - Self driving cars have been successfully tested in California. They are currently being tested all over the world.
  • Utilities can use AI to monitor electricity usage patterns.
  • Education - AI is being used in education. Students can use their smartphones to interact with robots.
  • Government – Artificial intelligence is being used within the government to track terrorists and criminals.
  • Law Enforcement - AI is being used as part of police investigations. Detectives can search databases containing thousands of hours of CCTV footage.
  • Defense - AI can be used offensively or defensively. In order to hack into enemy computer systems, AI systems could be used offensively. For defense purposes, AI systems can be used for cyber security to protect military bases.

Who are the leaders in today's AI market?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent machines capable of performing tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as speech recognition, translation, visual perception, natural language processing, reasoning, planning, learning, and decision-making.

Today, there are many different types of artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning, neural networks, expert systems, evolutionary computing, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, rule-based systems, case-based reasoning, knowledge representation and ontology engineering, and agent technology.

Much has been said about whether AI will ever be able to understand human thoughts. But, deep learning and other recent developments have made it possible to create programs capable of performing certain tasks.

Google's DeepMind unit, one of the largest developers of AI software in the world, is today. It was founded in 2010 by Demis Hassabis, previously the head of neuroscience at University College London. DeepMind developed AlphaGo in 2014 to allow professional players to play Go.

What are the possibilities for AI?

AI can be used for two main purposes:

* Prediction - AI systems are capable of predicting future events. AI can help a self-driving automobile identify traffic lights so it can stop at the red ones.

* Decision making – AI systems can make decisions on our behalf. As an example, your smartphone can recognize faces to suggest friends or make calls.

Who created AI?

Alan Turing

Turing was born 1912. His father was a clergyman, and his mother was a nurse. He was an exceptional student of mathematics, but he felt depressed after being denied by Cambridge University. He started playing chess and won numerous tournaments. After World War II, he worked in Britain's top-secret code-breaking center Bletchley Park where he cracked German codes.

1954 was his death.

John McCarthy

McCarthy was born on January 28, 1928. Before joining MIT, he studied mathematics at Princeton University. The LISP programming language was developed there. He had laid the foundations to modern AI by 1957.

He died in 2011.

AI will take out certain jobs. This includes drivers of trucks, taxi drivers, cashiers and fast food workers.

AI will create new employment. This includes business analysts, project managers as well product designers and marketing specialists.

AI will make it easier to do current jobs. This applies to accountants, lawyers and doctors as well as teachers, nurses, engineers, and teachers.

AI will make jobs easier. This includes agents and sales reps, as well customer support representatives and call center agents.

Is Alexa an artificial intelligence?

The answer is yes. But not quite yet.

Amazon developed Alexa, which is a cloud-based voice and messaging service. It allows users to communicate with their devices via voice.

The technology behind Alexa was first released as part of the Echo smart speaker. Other companies have since used similar technologies to create their own versions.

Some of these include Google Home, Apple's Siri, and Microsoft's Cortana.

Statistics

  • In 2019, AI adoption among large companies increased by 47% compared to 2018, according to the latest Artificial IntelligenceIndex report. (marsner.com)
  • Additionally, keeping in mind the current crisis, the AI is designed in a manner where it reduces the carbon footprint by 20-40%. (analyticsinsight.net)
  • That's as many of us that have been in that AI space would say, it's about 70 or 80 percent of the work. (finra.org)
  • More than 70 percent of users claim they book trips on their phones, review travel tips, and research local landmarks and restaurants. (builtin.com)
  • While all of it is still what seems like a far way off, the future of this technology presents a Catch-22, able to solve the world's problems and likely to power all the A.I. systems on earth, but also incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands. (forbes.com)
